Tranexamic Acid
« on: December 22, 2009, 11:57:20 AM »
Can anyone share their experience of prolonged taking of Tranexamic Acid Tablets. I have been on these for over a year now and they do reduce the extent of nose bleeds. If I have a run of "dry days " I will lay off them only to return a few days later with big bleeds. I was prescribed 6 a day but have reduced the dosage to 2 only 1st thing in the morning. Although I usually wake between 5 & 6am with a bled. I have had laser treatment which also reduced the flow even stopping for a few weeks. I would like to know if anyone experienced any side effects ie tiredness ...etc.
Regards Steve.

Hi

Been taking them for 5+ years. I should take them 6 a day but try to get by with just 4 a day, 2 morning and 2 at night. When my nose is particularly bad I increase to 5 or 6 with the extra mid way through the day. It definitely helps but as I know from experience you begin to think that Och (Yes I am Scottish) I am OK and don't really need to take the tablets. But I do really.

Hi

I take 4 - 6 tablets daily and have done for the last 25 years, my brother often takes more as he has things worse then me, basically if I don't take them I bleed a lot more than if I do. Not sure if there are any long term issues with taking them but specialist basically says if I don't take them then I'd be much worse and I agree....

To stevesmash;;;;;;;;;;;;Hi Steve been on Cyclocapron,:TAT: tablets for so many yr now I have forgotten whence I first took one,but must say that in all honesty would worry now if I stopped completely,I know they may not stop a bleeder beginning, but they certainly help speed up the clotting.
I take a min of 3 per day to keep a presence in the stream and in the event of a bleed I up them fairly quickly and it works for me anyway, and as for side effects was told to have blood checks every six month or so,to do with the liver and eyesight, re color.
to be frank dropped off that one months ago and i am a1 OK.
Had the laser few times, does not last and that is if it works at all which sometimes it does not.  And too much is not good for the nasals.
Am 65 now and had this prob most all of my life,at least never had the worry of mixing nose bleeds with work for many many yr now,and that is a weight off the mind I can vouch for.
All the best Bob........
