tonsils
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:34:44 PM »
Just curious if anyone out there with HHT has had their tonsils out.  My 3 year old has huge tonsils.  His doctor doesn't think they need to be removed, but I'm just wondering if there is a high risk of bleeding if they ever do need to be taken out since he has HHT.

Hi Aimee, dont come on this this site regular so I hope this reply is not to belated.
For what it is worth I had mine removed when I was four and then again at 12yrs,the reason apparently was they did not do a good job the first time.
Dont remember anything about the first time but the second was very uncomfortable that being the reason I can still remember even after all the yrs that have passed since.
Enlarged tonsils I believe  can give ear problems that was the reason mine were removed in the first place.
As I am sure your dr will have told you it is a small safe but messy procedure, and if your baby has no telangiactasia on the tonsils or indeed in the mouth should have no problems.
I can understand your concern but medical procedures have moved on a pace and I would say you had nothing to worry about,I always understood that it was better to have them removed at a early age rather that later.
All the best BOB............
