Pardon my ignorance but what is the Youngs Procedure. I just feel like someone switched the light on, to find all these people who evidently know a .lot more about HHt than my useless consultant

Hi Liz,
Youngs procedure was first performed in the fifties by  Dr Young hence the term at the Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital in th UK it is a full nasal closure where flaps of skin are cut inside the nose and stitched together like a camera shutter to prevent air going thro the nose which causes nosebleeds. I had it done2 years ago and not 1 single bleed since before I was having regular blood transfusions to replace blood loss thro nosebleeds disadvantages you can only breathe thro the mouth and sort of change the way you eat to compensate you still sneeze. If you are experiencing serious nosebleeds and require transfusions then I would recomend it
Hope this helps    Phil

Hi again every one been back at work now for two weeks, one month since op ,still having little bleeds from my right side but only for about a minute or two at the most this is a fantastic result for me so far cannot remember the last time my nose has bled so little from that side for this long . do not see my specilist for over another month as I go on holday in  in just over 2 weeks but will certainly be asking him when he will do the left nostrill feeling far less tierd but still have to have a new course of iron transfusions as my blood count is still low but hopefully this will be less frequent in the future , as for any one intrested in having this procedure doneI for one am very happy with the results so far , good luck LENNY.

great news Len if the nose is the only place you are bleeding from I would guess that, specially if you have the other side closed, your blood count will improve

Hi Phil yes I only bleed from my nose, had the camera down and up so to speak, given the all clear as far as they could reach. So if they do my left nostrill could be mostly bleed free, by the way bleeding from the left side as I type this, so not out of the woods yet. Never thought I would be thankfull that my bleeds are only from my nose,so I really feel sorry for those who bleed internaly as at times I have been at avery low ebb, just with my nose bleeds.I wish every one well and hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel for them,I am not there yet but now have some optmissium that my bad bleeds could be a lot less therefore my health alround could improve. :)

Hi Lenny
You will feel better as the nosebleeds come to an end the blood count goes up. I use to tick over at around six I am now thirteen and do not tyre as easy so it would certainly benefit you if you have your other nostril done . All the best    Phil

Back of holiday and been to see my consultant to day seemed suprised himself success of first op on right nostril Id say 90% inprovement from that side still little bleeds at times but only last a miniute or two. Has agreed to do left side due to succsess of first op,cant wait as left side still bleeding bad at times and spoilt part of my holiday. Will probably have to wait a few months before next op but if as succsessfull as first op will be over the moon, good luck to everyone will keep in touch. LENNY
