Hi again just to update you a little still waiting for left side to be done right side seems to be bleeding a little more not heavey but a little more often probably down to80% better than before being done . Not sure ,but seem to be able to breath from that side when I sniff up maybe not completley sealed, will bring it up with my consultant next time I see him, although 80% is still a great inprovement from before so still looking possitive. :)  Lenny

Hi Len
If you can breathe up thro the nostril Im afraid it is not doing its job as the whole idea is to stop air passing through and therefore prevent nose bleeds you should certainly bring it up with your consultant and maybe when you have the other side done ask him to repair it at the same time. Best of luck Phil

Finaly had the left side done not before having to go in for another blood transfusion, had just very small bleeds from that side since.the right side still about 80% improvement at the moment left side over90% had small bleeds down the back of my throat, but no bad bleeds down either side since they were each done. very happy so far things looking much better.

Good to hear from you Len you now seem to be getting there as things steadily improve . I have not noticed or been told that snoring increases or decreases but I find it strange that you cant inhale any irretants thro your nose but still sneeze. ive had the angiogram on my head and am waiting an appointment for the actual treatment itself I think the good news is that AVMs on the brain are hereditary so your either born with one or not and once treated any more should not appear. All the best   Phil

pavm is a malfunctioned set of small blood vessels usually found in the lung if not treated they can go on to cause strokes brain abcess etc usually treat by blocking off with a small coil by inserting a wire in a main blood vessel in the groin and following it thro to the offending vessel.brain avms are similar except on the brain and can also cause stokes or bleed treatment is by gamma knife where they precisely pin point the offending vessel and they bomb it with gamma rays to obliterate it.
hope this helps

Hi once again, sorry for the long delay, just to update everyone, still not having major nose bleeds but am having regular small ones from bort sides . Just started another set of iron infusions ,first ones for over 4 months which is a larger gap than I used to get but no blood tranfusions since december. I was ready for the iron as getting very weary. Still think procedure has helped but not as good as I was hoping.Yet to see specialist after latest side has been done seen his underlings. Hopfully will see him next month to see what the next step will be if any. Lenny

Sorry its been so long since my last post, also sorry to report things are now back to as they were before my ops. Having heavy bleeds once again ,have needed 1 blood transfusion and back to regular iron infusions, So seems to have failed with me. Seemed to be going ok at first but slowly retuned to my pre op state.I am feeling a bit downhearted as things did look promising at one stage. Will just have to put up with things at least I got a little respite even if it didnt last to long.

Hi Lenny

Sorry to hear your news.  I have had Young's procedure on just my right side, and it has helped loads.  Little wary about having both sides done though, because I have so many of the little red spots in my mouth, and don't want to be left just to mouth breathing because of the little bleeders drying out!

Hiyas !

Interested to know how you are getting on after having had the Young's procedure done over a year now.

Will be getting my first one done at the end of Dec...  :D  :D  :D

Hi April

Still not too bad on the closed side, although I now have a new red spot on the flap that seals the bottom of my nose, and it has become active now.  But the side that has not beenclosed is a real bad bleeder!

Good luck with your op.  Let us know how you get on.

Hi Tracy, Thanks for your reply ..  :)

I'm doing really great thanks!

It's been 3wks now and my nose is still a bit numb but the difference in the amount of nosebleeds is phenomenal.  I'm stuggling with the breathing though because the open side has telangectasie high up and it gets blocked with blood. Mainly its more difficult to breathe at night, and it could also be partly to do with the PaVM's. Everytime I think I have HHT sussed it offers up a new surprise for me.  :o
