We can lessen and stop nosebleeds
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:11:37 PM »
This is an email I received from someone called Marlene - I assume it was meant to be for all visitors to here (and that they aren't familiar with the way this forum works, as it is not email based like a mailing list etc.), thus I have pasted it below.

Please note that I haven't read through it properly (I've just skimmed it, and copied and pasted it to here), so for all I know it could be subtle spam (if you can confirm that it is spam, then please report this post using the 'Report to moderator' link) or/and untrue.

Sorry this is so long but it is important to all of us who battle blood loss.

I have discovered that yunnan paiyao also known as yunnan baiyao, an ancient chinese medicine slows nosebleeds and will stop them. I have been using it for 2 months and have gone from having iron infusions every week to having none. I can blow my nose and see no blood. I told my doctor, Dr. Huang at Duke about it and he decided to release the information to the HHT website today (without telling me) because he wants to see if the HHT organization will fund a study.
The way I came across this is I have a 13 year old Irish Wolfhound who had a nosebleed worse than any I have ever seen. We spent the night at the animal hsopital and they gave him tranquilizers and tried to pack it. It bled for 24 hours. An MRI showed he had hemanginomas on his liver. I asked my niece who works for an alternative medicine vet to find out if this was common and how she would treat it. She suggested yunnan paiyao. I found it in an Asian market and decided to try it myself after researching it. I did and it does work. My dog had another severe nosebleed last week and after 4 pills, it stopped completely and he has not bled since. I take 2 pills in the morning and 2 in the evening and if it starts to bleed I take 2. You must take it with a warm drink.

There appear to be no side effects for me or for Morgan (my dog). I pay $2.99 for 16 pills and one emergency pill. It is amazing and I think you all should try it. It has been known as magic medicine in China for hundreds of years and was very popular during the Vietnam war. It also comes in powder and aerosol, but I have not seen the aerosol. I am contacting the company in China to see if I can get a distributorship because on the internet I have seen it from $4.99 to $199.00 and it should be cheaper.
Let me know if you can't get it and I will see what I can do to help.

I have had septal dermaplasty, cauterizations, laser, controlled foods, taken vitamins and iron infusions weekly, this is the first thing that really works for me and I think it will you.  Let me know if you try it and it works.

Yunnan Baiyao (云南白药) also known as Yunnan Paiyao has been extensively used and considered a sort of miracle drug for wounds, pain, and hemorrhage. Unlike Western pain drugs, it does not turn off pain centers in the brain, but instead facilitates circulation, bringing oxygen to the injury.
It is useful for any type of open cuts and any kind of surgery. It reduces recovery time for surgery by half because it mends injured blood vessels. It does not interfere with Western sedative drugs, so can be used the same day as surgery. By immediately activating blood circulation, it helps resolve bleeding, pain, and swelling. It heals oozing wounds and damaged blood vessels, while expelling pus and counteracting toxins.
Although the ingredients are still secret, the two main herbs are raw and steamed tienchi ginseng. The raw form is cooling, the steamed form is warming. It is the combination of the two forms, along with other herbs, that make Yunnan Baiyao a balanced and powerful "drug" for pain and injury.

Its primary application is acute traumatic bleeding, where the powder is applied directly to the cut. The product is antibacterial as well as homeostatic.
Cuts heal quickly with even a single application, and with a butterfly bandage it can help seal smaller wounds that might otherwise require stitches. In various clinical studies, it has shown to reduce clotting time by 33% to 55%.
The powder form is more appropriate for topical application in traumatic bleeding, while the capsules are meant to be taken internally.
It is used for traumatic swelling or bruising, or for other blood disorders including thrombocytopenic purpura and leukemia. It is also used to inhibit internal bleeding due to trauma, surgery or cerebral hemorrhage.

Hi new to this. I went on wikipedia and this alternative medicine does exist whether it works I wouldn't know. My sons nosebleeds have just stepped up a gear, so alternatives are welcome as we enter into a new phase. I am hoping it is just a spot that he keeps on aggravating as he is seven and at that age!!!!!

Hi,

Thanks Matt for this post but I felt I have to raise my concern here. I realise that you are posting us on behalf of Marlene. So this reply is also to Marlene by proxy.

I trust that you forwarded this post to be helpful  :)  We are after all here to help one another and that we are trying to find answers that no-one can seem to give us at the moment.  So it is always going to be tempting to try things that we would otherwise be cautious about.

There may well be a good , safe, effective treatment out there for us but how can we be sure? Health and life is far from a gambling issue and any damage can be irreversible. I would suggest that any treatments be discussed with your doctor before you even attempt them.  How can you be sure of no side effects ?

Another point to consider is that many people will exploit incurable conditions.

I really do wish you all the best Marlene. Good luck and stay well xx

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.

Indeed, very good points - I wouldn't trust doing anything without discussing it with Doctors first.
